POP Arts Center (will resume in September)
Pre-School/Toddler and Youth (6-12)/ Adult Sunday School Meet in the Church
Christian Education Committee
Youth and adults share in the experience of exploring
their faith and growing in their spiritual relationships
through fellowship and study at POP. The
Christian Education (CE) Committee is dedicated to
developing programs that encourage a better
understanding of each individual's own commitment to
their faith and challenges them to find ways to carry
that faith with them into the world.
Please join us! We are always looking for new
and fresh ideas. We meet the first Tuesday of
each month at 6:30 PM.
Christian Education at Prince of Peace (POP)
We are committed to growing Christians - in faith,
spirit and understanding. Education is central to
our mission. Beyond Sunday School, our program
offers:
- Vacation Bible School
- Summer Camp
- Confirmation and
Commitment Classes for Youth
- KFC (Kids For Christ) for
grades K-5
- Youth Fellowship for
grades 6 - 12
- Scholarships for regional
learning events and camps
- Morning Adult Bible
Study
Classes
- New member workshops and
officer training
Adult
Christian Education
Adults and Youth Grade 6 and up meet at 9:30, before
Worship September -
May, and participate in a course of study lead by Pastor
Jeff. Each program invites participants to
increase their understanding of the Bible and God's
word, join in study and discussion with other members
and participants, and seek ways to apply His word to
their lives today at home, church, work and in the
community.
Youth
Christian Education
Youth grades 6-12 participate in the morning Sunday
School with Pastor Jeff. After Worship they meet
together and
their faith is explored through games and
activities, thought-provoking and challenging
discussions, and FUN outings. For youth the
focus is on increasing their own understanding of the
Presbyterian Religion, building their commitment and
faith, and finding a way to bring that faith with them
into all of their decision making. Over the
2009-2010 school year, POP youth have focused on Church
Mission. Through that study, they are encouraged
to think about the community around them, locally and
globally; ask themselves how they can go out to help and share their faith with others; explore issues of
cultural diversity, respect, hunger and need, disaster
and crisis, responsibility and much more.
But, the best part of CE at POP is that it isn't
over at the end of Sunday School. Youth are
invited to participate in POP's Youth group, church
camp, retreats, confirmation class, mission work and
accept responsibility for the life of the church through
participation in everything from Sunday Morning Worship
to serving as Youth Elder on session.
Christian Education K - 5
Elementary grades K - 5 participate in
hands-on Sunday School. Our CE Committee develops
a study plan with Pastor Jeff which prepares youth
to enter into Confirmation Class in grade 6.
September - May, the CE school year, is broken into 4-5
week periods and a story / topic is chosen for each
period. During that 4-5 week period, or rotation,
youth explore the story through music, games, crafts,
computer programs, storytelling and other activities.
This is very hands-on and rotates the
teachers as well giving youth the opportunity to build
upon the previous weeks lessons through various methods
and approaches.
Again, as with the older youth, CE doesn't stop on
Sunday morning. K-5 youth are invited to
participate in Kids For Christ youth fellowship, mission
work and other fellowship activities through their life
in the church.
Pre-School Christian Education
We love children at POP! And no child is too small to
be included in the life of the church. Sunday
School teachers introduce our youngest members to Bible
stories and lessons through fun activities, games and
play.
Confirmation Class, Morning Adult Bible Study and Other
CE Programs
In September of each year, Pastor Jeff and the CE
Committee announce the new Confirmation and Adult Bible
Study Schedule, as well as any additions, changes and
enhancements to the CE programming.
In recent years, Pastor Jeff has selected a
variety of Adult Bible Study Curricula. One of our
favorites, as well as Pastor Jeff's, has been the
Keryigma Curriculum. While days and times may
sometimes vary according to what works best for the
participants' schedules that year, Adult Bible Study is a
great chance to share time with friends and church
family, while exploring faith through study and
discussion.
