Christian Education
Children and Adult Sunday
School will resume in September
June 2011 CHRISTIAN ED NEWS
Summer is here!
Thanks again to everyone who helped out this year with
youth activities – Sunday School, Praise Party, dinners,
work projects….The youth programs would not survive
without the wonderful adult volunteers at Prince of
Peace. Your
time and energy to help the young people of POP grow in
their faith is priceless.
Summer Youth Programs –
Praise Party (elementary and middle school youth group)
will start back up on Thursday June 9th at
5:30 until 7:00.
Praise party is for youth ages 6 to 12 (older
siblings are welcome to join us to help out).
Each week we will play games, eat a snack, learn
about God, and do some sort of craft.
On June 9th, we will kick off the
summer with a campfire and S’mores!
Please spread the word, bring friends, and
plan to have a good time.
High School and Beyond – Bible Study
–
If
you are in high school, recently graduated, or in your
undergraduate studies, join us Thursday nights at
8:00 pm for Bible study and discussions about
current topics in today’s world.
Snacks, music, occasional campfires and trips to
local coffee shops will also be included in this
summer’s Bible study gatherings.
We will meet for our first gathering on June 9th
around a campfire ring at the Johnson’s residence.
See you at 8 pm. Spread the word, bring friends!!!

Christian Education Committee
Youth and adults share in the experience of exploring
their faith and growing in their spiritual relationships
through fellowship and study at POP. The
Christian Education (CE) Committee is dedicated to
developing programs that encourage a better
understanding of each individual's own commitment to
their faith and challenges them to find ways to carry
that faith with them into the world.

Christian Education at Prince of Peace (POP)
We are committed to growing Christians - in faith,
spirit and understanding. Education is central to
our mission. Beyond Sunday School, our program
offers:
- Vacation Bible School
- Summer Camp
- Confirmation and
Commitment Classes for Youth
- KFC (Kids For Christ) for
grades K-5
- Youth Fellowship for
grades 6 - 12
- Scholarships for regional
learning events and camps
- Morning Adult Bible
Study
Classes
- New member workshops and
officer training
Adult

ADULT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
LECTIONARY BIBLE
STUDY –
Every Thursday morning form 10:00-11:00 you can join
Pastor Jeff and study the scriptures that will be at the
center of worship the following Sunday.
ADULT
ISSUES CLASS – Every Sunday morning from
9:30-10:15 (Sunday school hour) in the White House.
Join teachers Julia Dillon or Yfke Njume to
discuss issues of the day from a faith perspective.
They will begin with issues of parenting and
family.
PASTOR’S
BIBLE STUDY – Every Sunday morning from
9:30-10:15 Pastor Jeff will be teaching in the
Fellowship room beside the sanctuary.
This fall we will ask the question: “Why is
that in the Bible?” and look at some of those
stories that make us uncomfortable – stories of bloody
vengeance, of adultery and betrayal, or strange, ancient
customs – what can these ancient tales say to us today?
Youth
Christian Education
Youth grades 6-12 participate in the morning Sunday
School at 9:30 am in the CE/Arts Center. For youth the
focus is on increasing their own understanding of the
Presbyterian Religion, building their commitment and
faith, and finding a way to bring that faith with them
into all of their decision making.
Christian Education K - 5
Elementary grades K - 5 participate in
hands-on Sunday School. Our CE Committee develops a
study plan with Pastor Jeff which prepares youth to
enter into Confirmation Class in grade 6.
September - May, the CE school year, is broken into 4-5
week periods and a story / topic is chosen for each
period. During that 4-5 week period, youth explore the story through music, games, crafts,
computer programs, storytelling and other activities.
This is very hands-on and rotates the
teachers as well giving youth the opportunity to build
upon the previous weeks lessons through various methods
and approaches.
Again, as with the older youth, CE doesn't stop on
Sunday morning. K-5 youth are invited to
participate in Kids For Christ youth fellowship, mission
work and other fellowship activities through their life
in the church.
Pre-School Christian Education
We love children at POP! And no child is too small to
be included in the life of the church. Sunday
School teachers introduce our youngest members to Bible
stories and lessons through fun activities, games and
play.
