Support the Summer Mission
Trips
Mini Mission Trip
Members of this years Mission
Trip and other volunteers will travel to
Portsmouth
on Friday
June17th, to paint the house we have been
working on. We will stay overnight at the home
of George Essman and paint
on Saturday, June 18th,
returning that evening.
There will be a sign-up sheet posted in
the narthex.
Please sign up soon as we need to
know how many are going, so arrangements can be
made for transportation. Any questions please
contact Roger Shahan
SUMMER MISSION TRIP
This will be the 8th
Mission Trip undertaken by members of Prince of
Peace since 2002. 17 volunteers have signed up
and paid their fees – a mix of high school and
college students and adults.
They will journey to Montgomery
Presbyterian Church in Fayette County WV, a once
thriving community and congregation on the
Kanawha River. The economic downturn of the last
few years has taken its toll and many live in
poverty and substandard housing.
Our group will repair homes (likely those
of the elderly who have not left for greener
pastures elsewhere), and help with the community
clothing closet and food pantry.
BUY A SHARE!
In the past members and
friends in the church have generously supported
this ministry, making it a mission not only of
the volunteers but also of the whole
congregation.
We’ve had several fundraisers – the
Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, a sub sandwich
sale, a night out at Pizza Cottage and the very
successful Monster Garage Sale.
Our thanks to all who participated in
these ventures!
Now the Mission and Outreach Commission
invites all in the congregation to purchase
shares in this mission enterprise.
Following worship on June 12 and 19 a
member of the commission will be in the
fellowship room to receive your contribution and
record your contact information.
During the week of the Mission trip those
who contribute will be kept in the know about
all our activities through postcards, Facebook
and email.
Thanks in advance for your support.
FOOD PANTRY NEWS
As you are planting your garden, please keep
the food pantry in mind.
Any excess fresh produce is greatly
appreciated by the pantry clients.
This month there is a continuing need
for pancake mix and syrup.
As usual, ANY
contribution is welcomed!
Other
Mission Projects:
Two new mission efforts are underway at Prince
of Peace:
1) We are receiving old cell phones – they will
be cleaned up and recycled by the “Lighthouse”
domestic abuse shelter – given to victims of
domestic abuse who need new phones.
2) You can help the homeless of Columbus
by donating plastic containers with lids and
toiletry items – we are working with a soup
kitchen operated by a local Catholic
congregation – homeless men and women can take
soup or other food away in the containers.
BOXES for donations are located in the
Fellowship Room.
Thanks for your help!
